There is no doubt that 40 years ago when Redbourn Care Group was established the word Care was a good choice, but language has changed, and we now have Care Homes and Carers so having the word Care in the charity’s name is adding confusion. The Trustees unanimously agreed that a change of name and logo was essential, certainly not to denigrate the past, in fact the absolute opposite – we wish to venerate the past 40 years – we hold it in the highest regard, we want to safeguard the legacy of those who founded the charity to be sure it is sustainable for the next 40 years.

Our experience in working with the wider community during the pandemic has taught us that we are much more than an organisation that gives help and assistance to the elderly, and that changing our name to the Redbourn Community Group would be a better way to reflect the fact that we are here to serve everyone and not just the elderly.

At the AGM in November 2020, we asked members to vote. 92% voted in favour which is an overwhelming result. This means we will adapt and develop new ways of supporting people both young and old. The change will help us build on Redbourn’s very strong sense of community.

However, it does not mean that the harebell logo is lost. We intend setting up The Harebell Club which will retain the logo that so many are fond of. It will be established for those who wish to support and help; members will receive regular communications and be invited to events, particularly fundraising ones, perhaps a lunch when we can all socialise again.
